Weekending…

dead tired …let the pics to the talking….most of Saturday spent in the kitchen….pumpkin roasting….seed roasting….pureeing….freezing…some left in the fridge for overnight oats…..

But my proudest funnest moment has to be making mussels in brine….talk about going down memory lane…childhood memories flooding back….my mum would be so proud of me….Mejillones en escabeche to me is Sunday Lunch….while mum was frying the croquettes and checking on the roast we would feast on the mussels and stuffed olives….

Today it has been a slower kind of day but tiring all the same…first thing in the morning a quick visit to the allotment to pick up some veg….while the rain was pounding on us….pretty good harvest…you see the red cabbages? first ones ever…..sauerkraut tomorrow…

In the afternoon a walk in the park and reading time while little one was busy making friends and digging in the sandpit….it was lovely in the sun…

In pots too….

every raised bed is full to the brim….every inch used for growing….in theory even the slugs should find moving about near impossible but little one has other ideas in mind….when I have my back turned she pinches a few seeds at a time and goes off to ‘experiment’….a few days later she calls me over to see her germinated beans or peas or sunflowers…..no matter how many times I tell here we have no more room she still keeps on experimenting and growing….so today we had to transplant a few peas from one of her pots on to a much bigger pot….

She is talking of asking Vanessa (the allotment manager) for her own plot….like being my helper is not enough because she wants to do things her way….so she now has taken over a corner that wasn’t being used much, only for storing dh’s building materials…..

She is happy for now but I don’t see it lasting…she has big plans this little 5 year old girl….on the walk back from the allotment we were discussing the possibility of a pond and some big bushes for the birds to hide in and have their babies in……

A non-gardening post…

the weather was kind of perfect for gardening but my eldest daughter had other plans in mind……long story short…. impromptu….. we have spent a couple of hours at the Modern Tate ……It doesn’t get any more random than that over here…lol…..

Little one has chosen to come with us too ….not sure how much she has benefited from the experience….hard to tell….well, she has been exposed ….

Definitely a different kind of day ….back to gardening tomorrow….insh’Allah….

river weekending

Saturday was spent with family and friends by the river….a two hours plus drive early in the morning but worth every second…all the way to Lincolnshire, to a campsite….. we were guests of two of the loveliest women you could ever meet…….good company, beautiful private setting, lots of laughter, freezing fast current which provided plenty of entertainment and a scrumptious bbq….simply perfect…mash’Allah

Sunday was spent in the garden, tidying up…my first tomatoes were picked!!! I’m drying and storing my first seeds….insh’Allah I will not be buying many seeds next year….

I hope you all had a good weekend and wishing you many good times this coming week…

The highlight of the weekend for me has to be THE PICNIC DRESS!!!!!!!!!……little one loves it and I love it and her sisters love it and my dh loves it…so yeah we all love it….mash’Allah….what else could a sewing mama want?

The hexagons are undertaking the border treatment….on this project we are divided…some of us find the black too strong a contrast others think is great….what else could a crocheting mama want? Debate is good, right?

Yesterday, dd15 and I traveled by bus in the scorching heat, all the way to Picadilly Circus to spend a couple of hours browsing books at Waterstones….we both think that bookstores are the closest thing to heaven on earth……books everywhere, even at the tables in the cafe….what else could a reading mama want?

Weekends have to be the best part of the week….don’t  you agree?
