Pinterest envy…

it is a well known fact around here that I have the green fingers and the brains when it comes to the allotment and gardening in general… BUT and that is a big but, I need to tell you that my dear husband is the best assistant one could wish for….I plan and he delivers…..so…a while back I showed him a few pics that I had saved on my pinterest board to do with guttering growing….I was thinking that I could hang them up in the greenhouse thus maximising the space etc etc….long story short last weekend I got my wish…only the guttering was more of a drainage pipe cut in half…LOL….he tries but as he tells me he has to work with what he’s got….LOL….wanna see them…here they are…

I now have two of those full of strawberries….they are not pinterest worthy  but I’m one happy lady…the problem is going to be hanging them up….lol…I’ll keep you posted…

Wishing you all a peaceful and productive weekend,

In the greenhouse …

considering this is my first year growing indoors overall it has been a very positive experience; new plants for the first time, earlier harvests and hopefully extended ones …and although I have made a few mistakes a lot has been learnt so as I said very positive all round….alhamdulilah

Let me show you what is growing in the greenhouse  currently….

Looks like…

we are going to have melons after all….first the germinating issues…then when the seedlings were transplanted into their permanent home ‘something’ ate a whole one overnight….but now there’s a flower on one of them!!!!! …insh’Allah….would be a shame not to eat at least one melon after all the TLC and time we have invested on them….

Hopefully the frame I have built for them works cause I’m playing it by ear here….I know that I will need some sort of sling when and if they grow heavy…..can’t wait!!! insh’Allah

In the greenhouse….

that moment when you spot the first fruit or veg…..no words to describe it…I’m known to do the happy dance or even the happy crying….yesterday it was the latter…don’t ask me why but I just cried at the sight of my first tomatoes and cucumbers…subhan’Allah….

so I guess the 30 plus degrees inside the greenhouse it’s doing the trick…I cannot wait to eat the first tomatoes….insh’Allah…

First day in May…

WP_20160501_12_27_05_Pro[1].jpg

decided to take a calculated risk and we’ve uncovered the potatoes….the fleece is off and I reckon they’ll do well…..the weather promises to behave more Maylike….insh’Allah

WP_20160501_12_46_12_Pro[1]

cabbages hardening off in the sunshine….I’m giving them another week before I plant them in the soil….still working out what raised bed for what plants…decisions decisions decisions….

WP_20160501_14_20_15_Pro[1]

The green house is starting to fill up pretty fast…..the chilies and aubergines doing well….the chilies are in their final pots now but the aubergines need some more time before either potting on or going in the soil….but I tried them for size….

WP_20160501_14_20_02_Pro[1]

I hope I’ve allowed enough space between them for healthy growth …I want to squeeze at least one pepper plant in that right corner…talking about peppers…..the first batch we sowed flopped but this time round looks like success insh’Allah…

WP_20160501_12_45_40_Pro[1]

Insh’Allah come the Summer I’m hoping for a greenhouse full of peppers, chilies and aubergines….three plants I have never grown before successfully…actually I’ve grown chilies before but small scale on a windowsill….

Just in case…

the potato experts at the allotment were busy this morning covering their potato patches with fleece…of course I had to go up to them and ask what and why, just in case I was missing a trick….it turns out the temperatures are going to plummet down drastically this weekend and they are not taking any chances with their potatoes….and neither am I for that matter….

Meanwhile, in the green house things are looking good….too good even…like I could do with planting out some of the courgettes and squashes but not sure it is warm enough for them…timing is everything I guess and I’m not very good at the waiting game….

WP_20160419_13_58_21_Pro[1]

Oh and one of the melon seeds has germinated!!!…… 1/6 :(……again, I think I should have waited a bit longer before sowing them…well they say gardening is not a precise science , more of a trial and error thing….lesson learnt……
