My poor poor blueberries…

did not stand a chance next to the raspberries…how was I supposed to know that the 6 canes I planted last year were going to multiply by a hundred at least?….Imagine my surprise when a few weeks ago I noticed lots and lots of new shoots all along the very long raised bed….something told me that I had to do something about the blueberries that were quickly being swamped…I asked around and the advice was to give them a home of their own and according to the experts  they do very well in pots as long as the soil used is ericace0us…let’s hope they survive the move and we have an abundant harvest…..I need them for my greek yogurt breakfast al fresco…badly…..insh’Allah

they do look much happier on their own…..don’t you just love learning on the job? I certainly do….is the best part of being a gardener, if you ask me…

Pinterest envy…

it is a well known fact around here that I have the green fingers and the brains when it comes to the allotment and gardening in general… BUT and that is a big but, I need to tell you that my dear husband is the best assistant one could wish for….I plan and he delivers…..so…a while back I showed him a few pics that I had saved on my pinterest board to do with guttering growing….I was thinking that I could hang them up in the greenhouse thus maximising the space etc etc….long story short last weekend I got my wish…only the guttering was more of a drainage pipe cut in half…LOL….he tries but as he tells me he has to work with what he’s got….LOL….wanna see them…here they are…

I now have two of those full of strawberries….they are not pinterest worthy  but I’m one happy lady…the problem is going to be hanging them up….lol…I’ll keep you posted…

Wishing you all a peaceful and productive weekend,

Chitting away…

this is only my second year growing potatoes ….I did not think I would do it again this year but here I am again…don’t take me wrong I loved the whole process last year and we got very good results but I thought they took too much space that I could not afford….anyways long story short here I am again growing potatoes…. they are still on my windowsill…chitting away…1st of April, rain or shine, is when they will be planted in the raised beds…..

November at the allotment…

not much to do apart from tidying up and doing those jobs that can’t be done when the plot is at full swing…more mulching, topping up and some sowing….

so….after consulting with the experts at the gardening fb forum I belong to I came to the conclusion that it was quite safe and bound to produce good results if I sowed broad beans this time of the year …who would have thought….mind you , the experts were split between sowing indoors or outdoors so I’m doing both…kind of an experiment and see what works best…

the idea is to get an early crop and then use the same beds for other spring vegetable…my ambition of using the plot all year round is starting to take shape…yay…

One day, one season, one year at a time…..I look back and I’m quite pleased with all I have achieved and learnt …feeling blessed….

Wishing you all a peaceful and productive week…

Saving seeds…

in the past I have never trusted myself to do it….what if none of them germinate? what if I end up with none? What if……………well , things are starting to change….I now feel confident enough to start saving my own vegetables’ seeds….so far I have put away sunflower and pepper seeds and this morning I emptied out my last orange pumpkin …the runner beans that were left on the vine were ready too…insh’Allah next year I will be using quite a few of my own seeds…who knows perhaps one day I will not be relying on store bought seeds…..they do say that experience is the mother of all teachers……………………………………………………………………………

Gardening is definitely a long learning curve…..loving every second of it and in my books that’s what counts…..
