This, that…

Not much happening around here….lots of revision for GCSE and med school end of year exams and dd14 is on her last English assignment of the year….so I’m just driving to and fro exams and gardening in between….

Churros con chocolate….. by Dd 14…..the one day I’m not home she decides to make something I have been craving for as long as I come remember…..Oh the memories…dunking the churros in the thick chocolate……….she got the recipe from the Gu recipe book. If you are a chocolate lover ….this is the book for you…trust me….

No major plans for the rest of the week even though is half term but can’t do much with the girls stuck in their rooms revising for their exams…alhamdulilah…..I guess I will be spending a fair amount at the allotment…insh’Allah

Growing, planning….

Those courgettes and sweetcorn plants are the last ones on my patio table…no more hardening off…the weather is warm enough to start planting straight on the ground….as soon as all the plants on windowsills are big enough they will be transferred  on to the plot…..I’m going to be busy in a couple of weeks I reckon insh’Allah…..

First time growing cucumbers….I added the home made cloche ( plastic bottles endings and tops)  and I am pretty sure it has helped tremendously……

I definitely need more raised beds…dh will have to hurry up and clear the last bit of the plot….he has allocated it for a green house but I think it might be best to leave it for this year and add raised beds….

I could do with another three raised beds at this end…….as I said too late for a green house this year….

What a difference….when I look back I can’t believe the transformation….subhan’Allah…..soooo happy with my plot…Alhamdulilah

Weekending….

PicMonkey Collage

As you can see most of the weekend was spent at the allotment….Plot 29 has been almost transformed over the weekend….we now have a shed!!!! …also dh added three new beds…..he is starting to believe me when I tell him that come the end of the month I will be needing all the space I can get……my windowsills are bursting at the seams with little pots with all sorts of seedlings in them plus the ones hardening off on the patio table….

Sundays are my favourite days at the allotment….the older and wiser and so much experienced folks are out there and they are a pleasure to talk to….so much to learn from them….and they are so friendly…..

Yesterday I had the honour of visiting Charlie’s green house…..the man grows and experiments with just about everything and anything you can imagine…..sugar cane was an interesting one….and what about this?

Havana tobacco leaves in London?!!!  ……….and just before I left he gave me 8 cabbage plants….he has hundreds and they are for anyone who wants them…….those up in the pic collage are his cabbages……

So, today , after sewing class I’ll be making my way to the allotment….got to organize the shed and plant the borlotti beans …..

Wishing you a good week….

P.S dd14 made those delicious lemon meringue shortbreadty slices….to die for I tell you….

They’re out….

the first tomatoes and runner beans to make it to the plot….I’ve nursed them…dh calls them “the babies” that need taking out in the morning and bringing back in at night…he just does not get the whole hardening off bit….he is North African…what does he know?  I just don’t trust the English weather enough …..

Neither look like much right now but insh’Allah in a matter of weeks the difference will be spectacular…..like look at the broad beans I planted not that long ago…. the ones at the back have been in a couple of weeks and we added a few more today……see the difference?……insh’Allah will have a prolonged harvest ….still a few to harden off waiting for their turn on windowsills

Same with the corn…added three today….insh’Allah they will survive the colder nights out there…..

Next to go out onto the patio table will be some butternut squashes and some more courgettes……as the temperatures are not as cold at night I’m thinking 7 days should be enough but I will keep a very close eye on the weather forecast….

Wishing you all a happy productive week…..
